Santa Maddalena is a wine appellation that happens to sit inside a city — steep vineyards on the slope above Bolzano, close enough to walk to. At the Griesbauerhof you go through the rows and then into the cellar with the person who works both.
The tasting covers the estate's own wines, Santa Maddalena first among them. Small, direct, and about as far from a tasting room as you can get.
