Orta, the Village and the Island of San Giulio – Private Guided Tour

Meet your expert guide, who will lead you to discover the unique beauty of Orta, known as the “Watercolor of God.” Departure is available only at 9:30 AM or 3:00 PM. Visiting Orta truly feels like stepping back in time: in this small village, it seems as though time has stood still. The best way to experience it is by strolling through its narrow streets, lined with elegant bourgeois buildings featuring wrought-iron decorations and stone roofs, alternating with the simpler homes of fishermen.

Your guide will show you the most picturesque and hidden corners of Orta, leading you to the Piazzetta, the true heart of the village, with its arcades, colorful little shops, and charming café terraces. From here, you will board a private boat for a delightful mini cruise on Lake Orta, admiring along the shoreline elegant villas with beautiful gardens, hillside villages, and the peaceful surrounding mountains.

On the Island of San Giulio, you will visit a magnificent Romanesque basilica, transformed over the centuries and now home to masterpieces of painting and sculpture, including the famous Crypt of Saint Julius. Your guide will share the history, art, and ancient legends of this truly special island. A walk along the “Way of Silence” is not to be missed, offering the chance to admire the ancient Benedictine Abbey of Mater Ecclesiae.

At the end of the visit, a private boat will take you and your guide back to Orta.
